Environment setup¶
ELITECAD installation¶
The first step is to make a fresh installation of ELITECAD with the latest ISO which will be provided by the development team.
ELITECAD Configuration – region & language¶
The ELITECAD configuration lets the user control the language and the region of ELITECAD. This way it is possible to operate ELITECAD in a different language than the system language. Furthermore, the region setting affects the parameter sets. It should be noted, that some dialogs within ELITECAD are using the region settings from Windows, therefore if the settings in ELITECAD config differ from the system language, it is possible that some dialogs are displayed in the system language.
Windows system language¶
The Windows system language controls the user interface language of your operating system. In general, the language of ELITECAD is controlled by the settings in ELITECAD config, but as mentioned in the previous chapter, some dialogs will use the information of the system language for displaying text. Changing the system language requires a restart of Windows in order for the changes to be effective.
Windows Keyboard language¶
The Windows keyboard language can be changed on the fly and has immediate effect. This is especially important if the language requires special characters or different keyboard layouts. Changing the keyboard language can be done while ELITECAD is running.
Windows region settings¶
The windows region settings are especially important for ELITECAD users that need special character sets like Arabic, Russian, Greek, etc. If this configuration is not done correctly, ELITECAD can’t display the special characters. The settings can be made under
Administrator mode for ELITECAD configuration¶
In order to be able to change certain settings in ELITECAD it is important to set the HD_ADMINISTRATOR environment variable in Windows. For this open the following dialogue using:
Windows -> System properties -> Environment variables
Show parameter read mode¶
ELITECAD allows for global and user parameters. Global parameters are shipped with the default installation and can be used right away. If a user wants to change existing parameters or create new ones from scratch, they are stored as user parameters. Parameters are stored in config.val files in the following directories:
- Global parameters: C:\Program Files\EliteSuite16\ELITECAD16AR\u\1600
- User parameters: C:\Users\
\elitecfg
Partners who create new parameters will mostly copy existing global parameters from a different country, make some changes to them and store them as user parameters. Once theses modified parameters are sent to the ELITECAD development team, they will be integrated as global parameters for the specific region. In order to see which parameters are global and which ones are user-defined, please set the following option in the ELITECAD options menu:
ELITECAD -> Settings -> Options -> System -> Configuration
