Feather key

Shafts carry machine parts such as belt pulleys, toothed and chain wheels or couplings. The hubs of these components are positively connected to the shaft.
The most commonly used interlocking hub connection is the feather key connection.
With ELITECAD, the construction of the correct keyway for the specified shaft diameter is automatically offered according to the standard. This function is based on the feather key according to DIN 6885 - Form A round-ended.

The input dialog appears when the function is called. The completed dialog is confirmed with . In this way, the keyway is dynamically active at the cursor for positioning in the drawing, in accordance with the selected display. The function is ended when it is positioned in the construction.

Keyway views

For the view, mark the starting point (left) and the end point (right) in the construction. The contour of the keyway is drawn. The relationship of the start and end points to the keyway contour is shown in the input dialog with blue symbols.

For the top view, mark the starting point (left) and the end point (right) in the construction. The contour of the keyway is drawn. The relationship of the start and end points to the keyway contour is shown in the input dialog with blue symbols.

For the section view, select the centre of the shaft in the construction when prompted with the query Where to position?. The contour of the keyway is drawn with the circular contour of the specified shaft diameter. The function is ended when it is positioned in the construction.

To change or optimize the design and dimensions of the keyway, it is advisable to use the function MODIFY>FEATHER KEY.
